Lake Mburo National Park

This is lying in one part of Uganda and covered in extensive acacia woodland, Ithas markedly different fauna to other reserves.
It is the best place in the country to see the gigantic eland antelope, as well as zebra, impala, and many other acacia-associated birds.
There are five lakes within the park which attract hippos, crocodiles and variety of water birds, while the swamps hide secretive papyrus specialists such like sitatunga antelope and red, black and yellow papyrus gonalek.

The location

Lake Mburo National Park is situated in Kiruhura District in western Uganda. It is located about 30 kilometers, by road, east of Mbarara which is the largest city in the sub-region. This location is approximately 240 kilometers by road, west of Kampala. The coordinates of the park are: 00 36S, 30 57E.

Major activities

  • Game viewing. Which is the major activity done in the park.
  • Boat rides. This is done because a diversity of animals and plant species can only be viewed when one takes a boat ride along the lake. Birds like the pelicans, Black crake, Heron, etc.
