Queen Elizabeth National Park

Queen Elizabeth, Uganda’s most visited game reserve and it’s the second biggest national park, it boarders DRC on its western side  lying on the base of the rift valley between lake George and Edward. It’s known for the big four animals those are the lions, elephants, the buffaloes and the leopards and also classified as an important birding area by the Birdlife international.

LOCATION

Queen Elizabeth Park lies in about 5-6 hours from Kampala on the surface road via Mbarara and can be reached on the dirt road from Bwindi accessible by public transport and it’s in the southwestern region near Kasese. And it’s about 1,978sq km large.

Activities there

There are a number of activities in then park which include;

  1. Chimp tracking in the Kyambura gorge.
  2. Launch trip on the Kazinga channel which offers great game viewing.
  3. Game drives in mweya.
  4. There are also guided tour walks within Maramagambo forest.
  5. Birding watching.
  6. Salt works visit

Where to stay;

The mweya sector of Queen Elizabeth national park receive the majority of visitors to the park because there are a number of newly refurnished lodge and the  park HQ situated on the Mweya peninsular.

When to go.

Road conditions can be difficult and very muddy in the rainy season between March-April and November-December therefore tours are best done outside these seasons.
