The Mount Karisimbi Hike

The adventurous hike on Mount Karisimbi takes two days to reach the summit, and this is so because the hike is rather strenuous so advice hikers to take the hike unhurriedly as the two days are adequate enough. Because this mountain is found within volcanoes national park home of the mountain gorillas, on a number of occasions hikers have reported to have encountered the gorillas, different monkeys and birds which makes their hiking experience even more exciting.

The hikes on Mount Karisimbi begin very early in the morning at the Kiningi Park headquarters were you will be briefed by the park warden before transferring to the Karisimbi head-trail and there you will start your hike. You will be assigned a guide and armed solider who will lead and escort you on this adventurous hike. There are also porters available for hire who will carry your luggage during the hike.

The Mount Bisoke Hike

This mount Bisoke hike takes one day and its less strenuous although it will require good physical fitness. The hike up to the summit (with a crater) and back to the trail head takes 5 to 6 hours.

Very early in the morning you will head to the park headquarters at Kinigi where you will be briefed by the park wardens before transferring to the Bisoke trail-head and there you will the hike.  You will be assigned a guide and armed solider who will lead and escort you and in case you are interested, you may hike porters as well to carry your bags.

Five things To pack for your Rwanda Hiking Safari

Strong Hiking Boots: Don’t forget to wear strong hiking boots. These will give your ankle good support and keep you firm on the sometimes slippery trails.

Water and Snack: Don’t forget to pack enough drinking water to enable you keep well hydrated. A snack will also be essential during your hike

Proper insulation: especially long trousers, gloves, hat and a jacket
