POOR ROADS AFFECT TOURISM IN MOMBASA THIS FESTIVE SEASON

The Mombasa and Coast Tourist Association has critized the poor state of roads in Mombasa because they have been a challenge to the tourism sector in the country.

Millicent Odhiambo the MCTA executive officer said the hotels and lodges have complained about the urban roads in Mombasa. The Kenya Urban Roads Authority (Kura) and Kenya National Highways Authority (Kenha) had promised to repair the roads before the festive season but nothing has been done so far.

The situation of the roads has worried the hoteliers because Christmas is near yet it is the time they receive more visitors in town.

Tourism depends highly on the status of the destination and presently the roads are not attracting.

Odhiambo said the visitors visiting Tsavo and some people have missed their flights because of traffic at weird hours. The most affected areas have been the Mombasa-Nairobi highway where the trucks turn and the other roads have large potholes.

The senior engineers have vowed to pressure the organizations in charge of the situation to sort it out as soon as possible and the Mombasa municipality to remove the garbage in the city.
