Rwanda launches ‘Tembera U Rwanda’ to boost Domestic Tourism

Today, the Rwanda Development Board has publicized the launch of the ‘Tembera-U-Rwanda‘ campaign, which is targeted at motivating the people of Rwanda to explore and adventure through their own home-country and set focus on domestic travel / tourism. This launch which started with various activities today 30th September will end on 1st October with a thrilling tour in the cultural heritage corridor, making a number of stopovers until arriving in Huye District.

The itinerary of this launch includes various activities that have been organized along Rwanda’s cultural corridor to offers the participants have an insight of the rich cultural history of Rwanda.

Among these activities will be historic visits to Ibisi bya Huye as well as Nyagakecuru, storytelling at Ijuru rya Kamonyi within Kamonyi District, Urutare rwa Kamegeri and Kankazi site. Towards the end of the tour, there will be cultural entertainment performed live by Ingoma Nshya a renowned female troupe Mount Huye.

Belise Kariza the Chief Tourism Officer at RDB while addressing the press conference, said that  this campaign is calling upon all resident Rwandans to be lively participants in this tourism development through consuming the local products and above all through contributing to Rwanda’s brand. He went on to call upon the private sector to offer tour packages as well as special accommodation rates for the Rwandan local market

This Tembera U Rwanda is going to run for three months starting this October until the end of December 2016. The campaign is going to include bus trips for fortunate trivia winners that will have an opportunity to travel at no cost to different tourist sites within Rwanda. The participation of the general public is going to be on a first-come, first-served basis whereas registration is going to be through the different reservations & sales tourism offices across the country.

Belise Kariza went on to say that this country is among the most heralded destinations on the African continent and it ought to be appreciated by its very residents. With these discounted rates for the resident nationals, and good road access to the different tourism destination, he invited all the people of to bear witness and be part of this exciting experience which the country is selling to the rest of the world.

In conclusion, Belisa said that domestic tourism is a beneficial investment and a chance to discover their home country. in relation to the 2016 World Tourism Day theme: ‘Tourism for All Promoting Universal Accessibility’’; this is in line. Internationally this day is observed every year on the 27th of September. Rwanda is going to honor this holiday together with the launching of the domestic-tourism campaign.

Some of the partners who were acknowledges by the Rwanda Development Board for their support in this initiative included the Guides Association, the Southern Province, Huye, Kamonyi, Nyanza, Ruhango and Muhanga Districts; local tour operators, the Mountain Climbers Club, transport companies as well as the Tourism Chamber.
