FOREIGN TOURISTS TO PAY MORE FOR PARK ENTRY

Kenya Wildlife Authority has raised park entry fee for foreign non resident tourists by 33% from $60 to $80 therefore increasing for the second time.

The conservation fees  has an aim of encouraging visitation during the low season in most visited parks and to reduce congestion during the peak seasons to preserve  the environmental  integrity of wildlife zones.

KWS said the new tariffs will be used in Amboseli, Tsavo East and West, Lake Nakuru, Mount Kenya and Meru National parks during the peak season months of January to March, July to August and September to October.

The East African residents will continue paying Sh1, 000 for entry to the park and so will the non East African citizens.

The wildlife manager said the increased percentage is to improve on the infrastructures like securing the wildlife migration corridors and dispersal areas opening up of tourism investment in under utilized parks and reserves, management of specific wildlife population, increasing the costs of staffing, improving security, maintenance and government policy.

According to the government policy, the park should finance itself so KWS has decided to raise the park fees to increase on the revenue to cover its costs.
