Rwanda government promises security

All Tanzanians that stay and those that travel to Rwanda have been assured of safety, free movement from one point to another without worrying about persecution. This is after Louise Mushikiwabo the Foreign Affairs Minister emphasized so amidst the ongoing expulsion of Rwandans from Western Tanzania. He said this while addressing at a press conference in Kigali- Rwanda and he mentioned that the recent pronouncement of Tanzanian President Jakaya Kikwete regarding negotiations with DRC-based FDLR militia, will not disrupt strong ties between Rwandans and Tanzanians.

Her said the two countries are not only neighbors but also have strong ties among their people like blood ties, business ties and therefore have a lot that brings the countries together. He then took the opportunity to welcome Tanzanians in Rwanda and he said that they can freely live in Rwanda for as long as they wish because Rwanda considers them its own people in the East African Community.

Mushikiwabo is also the government spokesperson. He admitted that when President Jakaya Kikwete of Tanzania said in May this year that the Rwandan government should negotiate with the FDLR something that angered people in Rwanda. This FDLR, whose French acronym means the Democratic Forces for the Liberation of Rwanda, is made up of members who are largely responsible for the 1994 genocide against the Tutsi in which over a million people died in a three-month slaughter campaign.

This same group has been branded by the UN as a terrorist organization because it is involved in creating instability in eastern Congo, it has been involved in attacks in Rwanda including a grenade attack last month that killed three people and injured dozens.

However, Mushikiwabo said that Rwanda’s policy towards the militia has always been clear and will not change for any reason, she has always asked whoever suggests that Rwanda should engage FDLR in negotiations to forget about it because they will never do that. Wiping out this kind of insecurity would be very good fro the growth of the country because just like any other East African country, Rwanda largely depends on the revenue collected from the tourism industry and yet a safer country attracts more tourists. It is very important for Rwanda to stay stable and also have easy means of movement with the neighboring countries and in this case, they will receive more visitors than expected.
