Rwanda tourism conference was indeed fruitful

Good news from Rwanda reveals that the Rwanda’s tourism sector was able to collect over $49million from conference tourism and they hope that they will be able to triple this by the year 2016. Basing on the records, Rwanda is becoming an attraction for conference tourism and recently they held the African Development Bank meeting which is contributing to more revenue from the sector.

Ambassador Yamina Karitanyi who is the Head of Tourism and Conservation said during a press briefing which was set to announce the 10th Kwita Izina ceremony at the Rwanda Development Board (RDB) that much more is expected in the future.

Rwanda will be naming 18 baby gorillas in the forthcoming gorilla naming ceremony to be held on July, 1st 2014 and this will be 10th naming ceremony and will go under the theme, “A decade of Conserving, Empowering – Growing.

Karitanyi also said Rwanda has continued to promote MICE (Meeting, Incentive, Conference and Events) so now that there are more facilities, they can participate in such tourism which is aimed at marketing the country for not only conference tourism but also other events.

Like in any other East African country, tourism is the best performing foreign earning sector to Rwanda and development of the MICE sub-sector will therefore help the sector perform even better. Just before the Kwita Izina ceremony there will be different other activities making way to the celebrations of the birth of the most endangered species worldwide.

She said Rwanda community led conservation efforts have led to a 26.3% growth in the population of gorillas since 2003 and Kwita Izina has been key to this success and also the government of Rwanda which has ensured tourism flourishes in a secure and safe environment.

According to the reports, Rwanda’s tourism sector has been steadily growing with over 1,137,000 visitors in 2013 and yielded over $294million up from the $62million that was collected in 2000. This performance is attributed to Rwanda’s attractiveness especially in West Africa as well as the presence of the Rwanda air the national carrier which makes it easy to fly in and out.
