gorilla-tracking-in-bwindiGorilla tracking is one of the most enjoyed activities for visitors that travel from various parts of the world to enjoy a Safari in Uganda. However in this article we have highlighted some of the dos and don’ts to follow in order to Track Mountain Gorillas Safely.

Avoid damaging plants unnecessarily; do not uproot vegetation unless if there is really need.

Always follow instructions and any tips or information that the gorilla tracking rangers will give you.

Never enter the park without the company of the park rangers as it is illegal and any illegal gorilla tracking is strictly persecuted.

Although gorillas are not aggressive, you should remember that they are wild animals and occasionally charge, so in case they do in your presence don’t look them straight in the eyes, simply crouch down and wait until they bypass you.

It is only a limited number of 8 visitors allowed to visit a group per day such that the carrying capacity of the park is not affected.

Avoid making loud noises while in the gorilla habitat because other than distorting the serenity of the park they may cause the gorillas to charge especially when in their midst.

To avoid transmission of disease especially cough and flu, do not spit on the ground and always cap your mouth with a hankie as cough or sneeze

Never eat, smoke or even drink in the presence of gorillas this may trigger the gorillas in any way.

When recording videos or taking pictures always remember to keep your camera flash off as it may cause the gorillas to charge

Always maintain a 7 meters distance between you and the gorillas at all times. They may seem impressive and very docile but remember that they are wild animals.

In case you want to sneeze or cough in the Gorillas’ presence you are advised to turn away from the direction of the gorillas and cover your mouth and nose.

When in the presence of the gorillas always remain together as a group and never surround the gorilla family you are tracking. They will feel threatened and may charge.
