African countries need to work towards Tourism Agenda together

Tourism experts believe that for tourism business to highly prosper in Africa all countries need to come together and work together a similar goal and this will help to protect the continent’s image in the world market. This idea was presented at the World Export Development Forum that lasted two-days and organized by the International Trade Centre in Kigali-Rwanda.

Forum ran under the theme  “Tourism for development: opportunities for SME trade,”  and during the speeches from different experts, they said  the stereotype and generalized negativity towards Africa is forcing tourism to lag behind and if these  challenges  are addressed through collective  effort, then may be  Africa would be able to attract more tourists.

In most cases, the western world looks at Africa as a single block and not as country per country and so whatever happens in one of the African countries does affect the whole of Africa for instance; Seychelles did not face the Ebola epidemic like some countries in West Africa did. Not even our neighbors faced Ebola but the number of tourists has decreased, so said Alain St. Ange, the Seychelles minister for tourism and culture.

There so many people in the West that are still ignorant about Africa and they do not define us according to our borderlines so whether national tourism brands intact in one country, but the situation is not good in another nation, tourist will not travel to Africa.

It would be really good if we do not compete for tourists among ourselves and we groom the African cake and present it to the world especially since we have very many similar attractions especially wildlife which we can market as one. More to this, we should be able to take some time, spend some money and visit some these places that we market, domestic tourism can also be good for business. It is best if we appreciate our natural and biodiversity attractions before the rest of the world does so.
