Enjoy a 3 days birding safari in Nyungwe forest

 

On the first day, upon arrival, there was a briefing about the tour by safari guide/ ranger just before entering the forest. The park is famous for a wide range of birds because of the nature of the environment, therefore there are more than 30 bird species including 27 endemic species,  forest birds, among others and birds like the Rwenzori Hill Babbler, Grauer’s Warbles, Handsome Francolin, Rwenzori Turaco, Mountain Sooty Boubou, Strange Weaver, Rwenzori Batis, Grauer’s Rush, Yellow-eyed Black Flycatcher, purple-throated, Archer’s Robin-chat, Neumann’s and Masked Mountain Apalis, Stripe-breasted Tit,Rwenzori double-collared, blue-headed , regal Sunbirds are very common. Lunch was packed but then dinner was at Nyungwe Forest lodge just be heading to sleep

The second day, immediately after break fast, it was time for the Nyungwe Forest chimpanzee trek. Starting with briefing and then start the trek to search for the chimpanzees. Besides the chimpanzees, there so many other primates in the jungle like the L’hoest monkeys and blue monkeys around Uwinka after a less strenuous hike. An orchid garden with over 100 species of Orchids at Uwinka is another feature that caught our attention.

So many birds were in the jungle in addition to those we had to seen the previous day like  Doherty’s and Lagden’s bush-shrikes, Great Blue Turaco, Barred long-tailed cuckoo, White-bellied robin-chat, White-tailed Blue Flycatcher, White-bellied crested flycatcher. Lunch was back at the lodge, after which we went for a nature walk before retiring for the day.

The third day marked the end of the trip and after breakfast, we transferred back to Kigali, visited the genocide memorial ground and then out of Rwanda.
