Rwandans celebrate 10 years of Kwita Izina’s existence

 

 Kwita Izina which is Rwanda’s highest profiled tourism and conservation event that involves the naming the young born mountain gorillas made 10 years this year and so had its 10th anniversary celebration. It started as a humble event with a one day event and later grew to be one of the East African region’s foremost conservation events and now it lasts for a week often combining cross country cycling races, community celebrations, inauguration of projects financed by the 5% share of gorilla tracking receipts and symposia where experts from around the world lecture, speak and interact with the local colleagues.

Usually, there are also art and conservation exhibitions, concerts and regular B2B sessions for the regional tourism fraternity attending the event followed by the grand finale on the 21st of June at Kinigi outside Musanze as the entrance of the Volcanoes National Park to name the 16 young born in a globally broadcast ceremony.

The theme this year is Conservation – Community Empowerment – Business Growth’ and it will be present throughout the run up of the event and will appear on all media releases and public posters all around Kigali and the entire Rwanda.

The Rwanda Air is flying visitors to the event from the entire Eastern African region, from South and from West Africa, also their flights from Dubai is operating and transport from Kigali to Musanze is available through regular scheduled bus departures from the main bus terminal in Kigali at a very reasonable cost.  All hotels and lodges in and around Musanze are expected to be quite full. Access to the public area for spectators in Kinigi is free of charge.
