Jane Goodall promises to help promote Chimpanzee tourism in Rwanda

Dr. Jane Goodall is a British primatologist, ethnologist, anthropologist as well as UN Messenger of Peace who arrived in Rwanda on her very first visit in the country from Tanzania where she had been after she left Uganda and will be heading to DRC and later Burundi. She is one of the world’s foremost expert s when it comes to chimpanzees, that is why she had to visit Ngamba Island while in Uganda.  She is best known for her 45-year study of social and family interactions of wild chimpanzees in Gombe Stream National Park, Tanzania. Over the years, she has come up with a number powerful  discoveries like the use of tools by the apes  say  using sticks to catch termites in a hole and this pushed the  scientists to rethink their views on animal behavior.

She is more concerned about inspiring action on behalf of endangered species more so chimpanzees, and has always asked all people to do all they can to make a the world a better place for others as well as the animals like these since they have to always  have to share this environment.

Goodall established the Jane Goodall Institute and it was contracted by RDB evaluated the status of habituated chimpanzees in Gisovu area on the northern part of Nyungwe National Park and help in the improvement of the rare tourism products for example the Source of the Nile, birding safaris, tea tourism and views of tea plantation landscapes, the dark green mountains of Nyungwe forest as well as the Lake Kivu.

RDB, working together with the Nyungwe Nziza project and with the help of Jane Goodall Institute wants to have Nyungwe National Park changed into a great ecotourism destination and also generate sustainable and equitable income for local communities that live around the park and other stakeholders. This Institute will provide a plan for improving habituation and guiding skills and technical support for increasing staff capacity and augmenting the habituation process in the Gisovu Sector s and this will be very useful in integrating the chimpanzee product into the overall Gisovu tourism plan.
