MUSEVENI INTRODUCES NEW PROJECT IN UK TO ATTRACT UK TOURISTS

The President of Uganda H.E Yoweri Museveni has started the Presidential Initiative for Sustainable Tourism in UK to attract more tourists to the country. The launch has been attended by a number of tour operators, businessmen, Ugandans, potential investors and other Africans.

The trade fair showed the beauty of Uganda through pictures and posters of wildlife, fauna, flora and cultural tradition like one of the banners that read Irresistible Uganda representing the beautiful Karamojong girl. Ugandan tea and coffee has been served during the trade fair.

During the launch, Museveni said tourism has been very important to Uganda’s economy because it creates employment and brings in a lot of foreign exchange. He said tourism sector is one of the main sectors that have led to development of the economy that makes market for local products.

The launch has been carried out in UK because most of the clients come from UK and in 2011, Uganda was chosen the best Tourism destination to be visited in 2012 by Lonely planet which is a travel guide based in UK.Mountain Rwenzori was voted one of the top climbing mountains in Africa and Virunga Volcanoes was voted one of the 20 places one has to visit in a lifetime. Bwindi National which is famous for the rare mountain gorillas was voted as the best birding site in Africa by lonely planet.

Murchison Falls was also voted among the top 10 birding places in Africa and the beautiful tree climbing lions found in Ishasha sector the southern part of Queen Elizabeth National Park were  chosen the photo of the month in the National Georgraphical magazine.
