TOURISM TIGHTENS SECURITY TO PROTECT TOURISTS

The Ministry of Tourism in Uganda  has started the Tourism Police improve on the security and safety of tourists.

Peter Okoshi Simon, commander of the new police form said that for Uganda to gain a lot from the sector, the tourists both international and local have to be protected so the Tourism Police must work hard with the sector to make sure their work is at the right pace.

He said the Tourism Police will operate in all tourist destinations in all parts of the country like lodges, hotels, gameparks, and game reserves. The ministry has trained 12o police officers but will employ more and increase the number to  around 900 where by all these should  be able to stop crimes before they happen.

The most famous travel guide based in UK voted Uganda as the top tourist destination to visit in 2012 and this has created a better image for the country. Because of this, the Uganda Wildlife Authority ,Ministry of Tourism and tour operators have to find procedures to  maintain the sector if Uganda is to take in more profits from the sector.

The sector has been affected by the political protests-the walk to work which has left 10 people plus the police officers. This has scared the tourists away.

The security has been increased in the country and the opposition pressure group have carried out peaceful rallies because the Uganda police has been trying to make sure the rallies do not turn aggressive like the walk to work protests.
