NYAMASHEKE DISTRICT SETS UP PLAN TO ATTRACT TOURISTS

Nyamasheke District  in Rwanda has decided on a Rwf20m approach to attract tourists to the district. The district mayor, Jean Baptista Habyarimana, said they have been consulting a number of stake holders on how to make an extensive plan which will be exposed in two months.

The district has a number of attractions located on the shores of Lake Kivu, beautiful islands and Nyungwe forest. The area has the longest bay on Lake Kivu the Kayenzi bay, there are amazing capes, chimpanzees, birds, markets near the lake and one can carry out a one day trip to Cyamudongo forest and walks into Kamiranzovu marsh.

Each year the district receives a number of investors who are willing to invest in the tourism sector and this plan will act as a guiding tool that will attract investors in the sector to easily recognize the region which they can undertake.

The mayor said the plan will attract investors in both the tourism sector and other sectors and this will reduce on the level of unemployment in the district because the locals will get jobs from investors who will construct the accommodation facilities.

The plan will also lead to the encouraging if a number of developmental activities being carried out in the district and that will lead to increasing taxes got from hotels and tourism destinations in the area.
