Over 350 animals that wondered out of Akagera Park pushed back

There were over 385 stray animals that have been guided back into the Akagera National Park after the installation of an electronic fence around the park sometime back. Local leaders and Rwanda Development Board say there were some animals that will be left out of the fence and they had become a huge problem to the villages.

Just a few days back, there was a wondering buffalo that was killed by a peasant farmer on his way to the farm because they have been very destructive, destroying their properties like crops. Eugene Mutangana, who is the deputy CEO of Akagera Management Company said while addressing the New Times about the operation to send back the animals like the so many Zebras that destroy crops in the community.

He said that over 20 buffaloes were sent back to the park on Tuesday but there are over 358 animals all together that are out side the park including the Zebras and other small animals that RDB keep sending back into the park and expect to use some help from the local people since they are not dangerous to people say the buffaloes.

He also as asked all the locals to good care of themselves as they walk along the park before they all animals are enclosed in the park fence because it may last till next year and till then, the areas outside the park are not safe for any one that is why they have got to alert authorities when they see any animals around their homes.

Meanwhile Philbert Munyensanga who is the Executive Secretary of Mwiri Sector the highly affected areas in Kayonza District said that all the local people are eagerly  waiting for  this operation to end.  The leaders are working with park management to end this problem.
