Primates’ safest zones in East Africa.

Following the fact that there have been some rampant poaching incidences of chimpanzees in Uganda and in Rwanda during the genocide, all the wildlife lovers say it is very important to protect primates more so the chimpanzees.

Vincent Ogwae, the Laikipia County deputy warden said that there are no cases of chimpanzee poaching in Kenya probably Kenyans don’t eat primates unlike the case was in Uganda and Rwanda during the genocide in 1994 and that’s why many of them were taken to Kenya for care.

According to Ongwae, there are some Kenyans that have illegally enclosed the animals in cages as pets yet they are supposed to be let free in forests or in other protected areas. It is also necessary to protect the natural resources and all the wild animals, forests and national parks are the best places for these animals to stay.

There are about 40 chimpanzees that are used for tourism and also to sensitize people on their conservation so said Samuel Mutisya, the Ol Pejeta Conservancy administrator. Chimpanzees should not be caged since they are wild animals just like other primates like apes, baboons and monkeys, he added. Children should be sensitized about chimpanzees so that when they grow up, they would be able to educate others.
