Rwanda will soon hold the convention Bureau Webinar

Come May 27th, the Rwanda Development Board will hold its second webinar and this time they will be focusing on the newly launched Rwanda Convention Bureau.  Every one is free to attend register for and attend the event so that you can learn more about the country, its tourism attractions and the upcoming brand new state of the art convention facilities in Kigali.

The tourism sector in Rwanda has continued to register an impressive growth within the last 5 Years during which Rwanda achieved growth of 12%, that way beyond the global average of 3% to 5%. In order to speed up the growth, a new strategy for the sector which is focusing on the area of meetings, incentives, conferences and events (MICE) has been developed and is being put into practice.

Ambassador Yamina Karitanyi who is the Rwanda Convention Bureau (RCB), the RDB’s Head of Department for Tourism and Conservation said while addressing at the introduce the MICE strategy, that the economic potential of the MICE sector for Rwanda is immense. Total revenues based on MICE tourism in 2013 were US$49m and this is anticipated to triple to US$ 150m in 2015 and that will be about 16% of all national export earnings and 34% of the overall tourism receipts.

Although the leisure and tourism business remains a very important part of the national tourism strategy, statistics indicate that business tourists spend up to three times more than leisure visitors. Currently Rwanda gains less from the international meetings, incentives, conferences and events industry  and so the  International Conference and Congress Association’s (ICCA) latest research ranks Rwanda as 21st position  in Africa.

The Rwanda Convention Bureau is a marketing arm whose sales and marketing plan is intended to help Rwanda become one of Africa’s top 10 by the year 2016. With this growth in MICE tourism, Tour Operators, Hotels, Restaurants, Professional Conference Organizers (PCO’s) and Event Managers, who form part of the nationwide tourism value chain, will need to improve on their product to meet the service delegate demands.

The National MICE strategy is in line with the fact about diversifying the current tourism product that will be complimenting the existing gorilla tourism which is also the most selling so far, eco-tourism, cultural and community based tourism. These are the core of Rwanda’s economy and so the Rwanda Convention Bureau will be introduced to the global meetings and incentives marketplace during the IMEX International Meetings Exhibition trade show in Frankfurt as Africa’s newest Convention Bureau. Hopefully, it will yield great fruits for the industry.
