Aviation officials ask for the single transit visa

The civil aviation authorities from the East African Community (EAC) member states have pleaded for the union to speed up the introduction and completion of a single passport during the consultative meeting on facilitation of air transport to reduce on the problems that exist at the borders.

The air transport has brought together civil aviation chiefs and tourist agencies from the EAC member states.

According to the civil aviation authorities, the single EAC visa and passport will improve movement across the EAC region which will improve regional integration and tourism sector.

It has been recorded that corruption and problems at the entry points of the member states is a very been impact to the citizens of EAC.

Dr Richard Masozera, the Director General of Rwanda Civil Aviation Authority (RCAA), said there is need for good facilitation mostly for tourists since tourism is the major key among member states so strategies have to be laid down on how the single visa can be applied as soon as possible.

According to the EAC secretariat, the issuing of the single visa, single, passport and the use of national identity cards for travelling with in and to EAC states will lead to liberalization and domestication of the region’s airspace.

The issuing of the single visa has been delayed because of lack of common database at the entry points.
