Nyungwe-canopy-walk-rwandaThe Canopy walk in Rwanda is found in Nyungwe National park Southwest of Kigali town the Capital of Rwanda. The canopy walk covers a 2.1Km distance starting at the at the Uwinka visitors center in the Nyungwe forest. Back in 2010, the canopy walkway was constructed by the Green Heart NGO with support from USAID. This walkway is divided into three sections with the first stretching over 45 meters, the second and longest stretch runs over 90 meters and then the last section which is also the shortest covers just 25 meters along the Nyungwe Canopy Walk. The highest point along this walkway is in the 90 meter section, and it is 70 meter above the ground.

The Nyungwe canopy walk is one of the most loved adventure activities for holidaymakers that Visit on a Rwanda Safari. This guided tour begins at Uwinka Visitors center within Nyungwe forest, and then this is followed by a thirty minutes walk along the Igishigishi trail that takes you deep into Nyungwe forest up a steep slope to the beginning point of the canopy walkway.  However for more adventurous holidaymakers, you may take on the longer Umuyove trail or Imbaraga trail.

As you explore Nyungwe forest on this canopy walk, you will come across several primates, different birds and numerous colored butterflies. You will also enjoy elevated views of the forest canopy and even on clear days see Lake Kivu.

The Nyungwe park management offers four sessions each day  and these include:

8: 00am

10:00am

1:00pm and

3:00pm

What To Carry For The Nyungwe Canopy Walk.

Bottled drinking water; at least one liter

Wear strong hiking boots

A rain jacket since it may rain anytime

A good walking stick

A camera with some extra batteries

A small back pack
