Akagera National Park is situated in the northeastern part of Rwanda covering a huge part of the savannah region with a mixture of grassland together with broad-leafed as well as some acacia woodland with the Akagera River flowing through it. The park also has a mixture of wetland as well as lakes which are found along the course of the Akagera River and also at the eastern boundary of the park.
The forest is a home to hundreds of bird species among which are the Red –faced Barbet, the Lybius rubrifaces, Sousa’s shrike, the white-collared Oliveback, among so many others. This makes the park one of the favorable places to do birding fro those that enjoy watching birds.
Within the papyrus that is along the river, you can find the reed beds species like the serinus koliensis, the cisticola,, the papyrus canary, among so many others. The forests in Rwanda are increasingly being sought out for the incredible birding opportunities and this helps to improve on Rwanda’s tourism sector.
