Bird watching from the boat is such an interesting adventure

This kind of adventure is more like shooting two birds with just one stone as you get to enjoy the boat ride and at the same time enjoying bird watching. In Rwanda, birding is done in places like Rugezi Marsh, Bugesera taking you around the thickets and grasslands around the bird sanctuary and it is such an exhausting four hours on the ground, like a foot soldier, and under searing heat.

Rwanda Birding Association often puts up announcement for any upcoming birding expeditions, inviting interested participants.

Birding in Rugezi Marshland is really fun and members are informed that they would have the opportunity to watch the birds from the comfort of local row boats. And usually there are so many birders that would be sitting on a local canoe for the very first time; this in itself is quite good already. Booking however needs to be done before heading there sop that the boatmen can be available for you.

You can always compare notes on the different birding experiences, recount sightings of rare and endangered species dotted across the country’s bird habitats and beyond. Those birds that are commonly seen in other locations like say at Akagera National Park, and other places.   Gargets like the Binoculars and cameras are very important this case and life jackets should always be put on since you will be travelling on water.

James Hogg from the Rwanda Birding Association encourages birders to eat a light snack before setting off because you might have to spending at least two hours on the boat and so wont access a rest room.
