FEW ITALIAN TOURIST S VISIT MALINDI DUE TO ECONOMIC CRISIS

The number of tourist arrival from Italy in Malindi has been affected this year because of the world economic crisis. The number has reduced by 50% compared to last year during the festive season.

Mr. Phillip Chai the chairman of Kenya hotel Keepers and caterers association in Malindi,Kilifi said the hotels have depended on the Italians tourists but the recording have been few this year but those that have changed their market to other foreign countries have had good recordings.

He said domestic tourism has succeeded and most hotels have been fully booked starting from December 22 to January 2012.many people from Nairobi have travelled to see the attractions in the country for the last past four years but the market in Europe has been down and they are planning to strike and Italy is among those countries that want to strike because of the crisis. The hotels   depending on the Italian market have 50% of the beds occupied and others are below.

The hotels should seriously begin changing their market to Scandinavian countries, Holland, Russia to make the industry sustainable.
