RDB considers promoting domestic tourism

The government of Rwanda recently during the 20th anniversary of the Liberation disclosed to the public part of what they will call the Liberation Museum setup in an effort to keep the history of the struggle alive in the country.

One of the places is the Mulindi which served as the military and administrative headquarters of the Rwanda Patriotic Front as well as the National Assembly in Kigali. Tour operators just have to fully embraced them and consider them as part of their circuits.

It is unfortunate that although the Rwanda Development Board (RDB) has come up with new attractive packages that are intended to attract foreign tourists, the local market is evidently still silent and yet it would be more fun to see how many Rwandans visit all these places like the museum at the National Assembly or Kanombe.

The other place is the musanze caves. It is absurd that lots of tourists visit the mountain gorillas but forget the caves, people should not leave that region without visiting the Musanze caves or other places that keep our national heritage alive.  This can only be achieved if the local tourism industry is development   so this means that major sensitization campaigns are needed to rope in this significant part.  It is certainly very embarrassing when a foreigner knows more about a country’s geographical features than the citizens and besides that, local tourists can increase on the amount of revenue collected per year and hence increased development.

Conservationists say Rwanda has lots of precious jewels but they are still hidden from its people because they are ignorant but the ignorance can be wiped off if local leaders were brought on board.
