Rwanda air is up to speed

By 03rd of March, the Rwanda Air will be receiving its latest acquisition which will be a Bombardier Q400 dual class turboprop aircraft to join the fleet in Kigali. At that time, the new technical support agreement that the airline signed a few weeks ago with Ethiopian Airlines for the line maintenance of this aircraft type will have just come into effect.

Mr. John Mirenge who is Rwanda Air’s Chief Executive Officer together with the Ethiopian Airlines CEO Mr. Tewolde Gebremariam signed the technical support agreement and under the agreement, Ethiopian will provide technical support service to Rwanda Air as of 01st of March for line maintenance up to A-Check level and component exchange support for the new Bombardier Q400 aircraft, an aircraft type that is also flown by Ethiopian Airlines. Ethiopian’s MRO Services will have a technical team based in Kigali to carry out the day to day maintenance on site while getting additional support from their main base in Addis Ababa if they need any help.

John Mirenge said that ‘Rwanda air recognizes the important role Ethiopian Airlines has played as a pioneer MRO provider in Africa over the years thus it was imperative that we explore the opportunity for MRO partnership.  The may strengthen the bond between Rwanda Air and Ethiopian Airlines while continuing to show the world that the African aviation industry remains  very important  for African economic growth and advancement.

Rwanda Air has  also taken advantage of having the same MRO servicing their two Boeing 737-800NG’s, their two Boeing 737-700NG’s as well as their brand new Q-400 NextGen which will soon be arriving in March. This new agreement builds on the already strong relationship that Rwanda Air has with the Ethiopian Airlines for example, the pilot training program which Rwanda Air pilots go through and engineering staff graduate from the Ethiopian Airlines training programme.
