What to Do on the Congo Nile Trail | Safari Rwanda

The easiest way to do the Congo nile Trail on a Rwanda safari is by biking. Biking is advisable since it is not as tiresome as walking and you can easily access all small routes along the trail as you go up and down the hills. This trail goes along Lake Kivu, it originates from Runavu, goes through Karongi and then ends in Rusizi district.

The trail covers a distance of 227km which are covered with very beautiful gently rolling hills; very clear water and this distance can be covered in 10 days but can be split  up you don’t have time. There are different trail routes to follow for instance;

You can also hire a porter as they are readily available to all hikers who may need some help carrying their luggage otherwise, you will only need a guiding map so that you don’t get lost during your hike.

There is the 1 or two days long route and this comes from Gisenyi to Kibuye and it is the best choice for those that have very limited time but would wish to do this hike.

The other from Gisenyi to Kimembe takes about 5 days using a bike if you don’t encounter any hindrance along the way that affects your travel speed like a flat tyre may be or anything else.

What you should take along with you

When planning a hiking adventure, you should always pack even if the hike will be a short one. You should always carry drinking and sacks or anything eatable with you in the back pack because here will be no grocery stores to buy from once you start the hike. The distance from one point to another village more so if you are going through those remote areas where you may find some shops may be about 5 or 10 km, a distance any one can hardly cover without taking some water.

Always use consider the comfortable shoes, trousers may be favorable along with anything else you may need for personal use like sunglasses, cap, among others.

Where to sleep during the hike

Because the hike might be rally challenging, it is important that you have all the materials you may need and of good quality. You can always hire materials like the right bikes say from Gisenyi, the giant mountain bikes may however be a bit expensive.

In order to have an amazing, less tiresome with no or minimum disturbance during the hike along the Congo Nile trail, you have or hire the sleeping bags, the spare parts for the bikes, carry enough cloths, toiletries, sweaters for the cold nights and anything else you know you will need.
