WHY SOME HOTELS WERE NOT RATED

During the classification of hotels by RDB, two hotels have been classified as five star leaving the rest to improve on their facilities so that their stars can change. Some hotels have not been classified like Umubano Hotel which is formerly owned by the Libyan African Investment Portfolio yet is considered on of the best hotels in Rwanda with more than 80 rooms than those that have been classified.

RDB said hotels that have been under construction or renovation have not been included in the first hotel ranking. The manager of the   hotel said they have been expanding and developing the hotel.

Dennis Karera, the Chairman of Rwanda Hotel and Restaurant Association, requested RDB to also rank the hospitality facilities that were not ranking such as motels, restaurants and villas. The classification has helped the hoteliers to know where their facilities belong.

He said there are many hotels coming up and have to be ranked so they can’t wait for next year for the next process to take place.

Hotels have been classified a five star according to their location, the environment, the environment and their international standards.

For a facility to be ranked a one star, it should have accord natural environment laws and match to the building regulations related to the town where it is established.

According to the increasing demand from the private sector, the rating will be carried out every year in the first stages but as years go on, it will be carried out after two years.RDB classified a number of hotels, vacation sites, lodges but not the whole hospitality group.

For a hotel to be ranked a three star, it must have enough natural ventilation with good equipments and for a four star, and five, it must have good quality air conditioning systems.

The swimming pool in a four star should be 100 square metres, regulated water temperature, beautiful standard design.

Other things that are considered are, the bottled drinking water has to be supplied everyday in the bedrooms, stationery, Do Not Disturb sign, laundry bags, water glasses and air freshening supplies.

Hotels that belong to the five star the above must be tribute with sweets, fruits, flowers and chocolates.

All hotels must have public liability insurance and other legal insurance policies.
