visit Rwanda’s Akagera national park

The park gets it name from the river Akagera that meanders through it in the Eastern part of the country and it is composed of the savannah grassland, clusters of acacia trees and open grassland in some areas. The park has got some swampy areas especially close to the course of the river.

Akagera national park has a high population of different wildlife among which is the giraffes, zebras that can be seen roaming around the park freely. There are so many dozens of antelopes; there are chestnut coated impalas, the Oribis, the shy bush bucks, the cape Eland, there are savannah Elephants, buffaloes, warthogs and sometimes the leopards, stray lions and hyenas can be seen too.

In the waterways, you can find so many hippos, crocodiles with jaws opening hoping to get their next meal, they are sometimes seen by the river bank under the sun. Besides, the wildlife, Akagera is also a home to hundreds of birds, 4 species are endemic while others are migrant birds thus making it a great park to go for bird watching. There are birds like the fish eagles, shoe bill stock might be seen too, the papyrus gonolek, among so many others.. Some of the tourism activities done when you visit this park include a boat ride, game watching, bird watching, nature walks with well trained rangers. This park, is more like Uganda’s Murchison falls national park.
