AMBASSADORS ADVISE ON TOURISM MARKETING

Tanzania has elected five ambassadors and they have said that for successful support of tourism, the park fees have to be increased and improvement of infrastructure to improve national income from the sector.

They said the country lacks such measures and this has led to low revenue in the park and only two out of the fifteen national parks create profits and these include Serengeti and Kilimanjaro.

Most of the parks in Tanzania work at a loss and those trying to start making profits include Arusha, Manyara and Tarangire national park.

One of the ambassadors said they have to attract more tourists to improve on the revenue mostly in the western and southern circuits so they have called upon the government to work on the roads and airports to improve on the accessibility of the parks.

They also planned for an increase in tourist fees to compete with the value the tourists get from viewing a number of attractions.

According to Tanapa, the fees for non East Africans vary from $40 to $100 depending on the parks and residents pay Sh1, 500 per person.

The country has a problem of lack of enough hotels in some of the parks and those available are too expensive for local tourists.

The government also has to prevent poaching because according to TANAPA, the problem has been common since poachers use complicated weapons.
